Certificate of Authentic Leadership

Carina Arellano

We've lost a number of great leaders in recent months: Desmond Tutu, bell hooks, Lani Guinier, and Sidney Poitier, among others. In their lives and work, we can see a legacy of both courage and love. Let's explore how they developed a deeper consciousness as leaders, moving to action-oriented community-building and self-care. We'll look at tools we can utilize today to make those habits our own and to better understand the difference between intention and impact. This workshop covers, explains, and explores how our various identities contribute to our mental health in the workplace. How do microaggressions affect the way we see ourselves? How do our parents’ or grandparents’ immigration histories affect our motivation or self-evaluation? And what do we do about it? This interactive workshop also includes journaling activities to kickstart self-reflection and group discussions to foster connections and support with other BIPOC Professionals. At the end of this presentation attendees will: Have a basic understanding of Impostor Syndrome. Know how their identities shape and influence how it shows up in their personal and professional lives. Know the red flags of Impostor syndrome. Build one grounding tool to support in addressing red flags. Know where to start if they would like to seek additional support. This workshop will engage participants in critical dialogue around the balance between the need for leaders of color to maintain a bias toward Action while also finding support. Authentic leadership requires conscious community building and letting ourselves be known. How do we stay open and engaged under pressure? What will we take away from the Leadership Summit?
